Social media is powerful and its here to stay. Resistance is futile.
As a small business you are a part of social media even if you are not officially on any social media networks. How, you ask?
Because your customers are there, and they are talking about you, therefore you are there also.
Whether you choose to be apart of social media or not, its inevitable that you will be there. If that’s the case, don’t you want to know what your customers are saying about you? And don’t you want to be able to put your best image out there, rather than leave it to chance?
I would think so.
Here’s an example of how a local business is on a social media site like Facebook even though they haven’t officially joined the network.
I had just eaten at The Crab House Restaurant for the first time. When I got home I posted an update about it on my status. The update got 13 comments with people wanting to know how it was and others comparing their experience.
This happens all the time on social media sites! People share their daily experiences with their network of friends on social media and lasting opinions are formed about a business based on the general consensus of opinion.
Here’s another example that’s very positive and something that businesses love to hear.
And another not so positive example
In my article 7 common social media myths on of the common reason most small business are not on social media is that they believe that they will receive negative comments.
Well the fact is you will receive negative comments whether you’re on social media or not, But being on Social Media gives you the opportunity to respond to negative comments and soften the blow negative comments can have on your brand.
Why isn’t your business on social media?
Shortly after I posted this article it was proven true in a big way. A disgruntled customer created a Facebook group entitled “Bahamian Businesses That Suck”. Within 24 hours the group had 1300 members and over 100 businesses had been named in detailed stories of poor customer service!
Don’t leave your Business Reputation to chance or Random comments. Joining Social Media allows you to;
- Manage Your Brand
- Connect with Your Clients
- Get New Clients

PS: An added benefit of being on facebook is that so few Bahamian Businesses are on there that you can effectively beat your competition to the punch.
PPS: Btw, did I mention there are over 165,000 Bahamians on Facebook?
