Happy New Year!
Is it just me or does it seem like the older we get the faster the year goes by?
As 2014 came to a close I started looking at the year that was and making plans for 2015. I was able to learned what worked and what didn’t. Which will allow me to make decisions this year that I believe will improve my business.
Who Contacted Me In 2014
Quite a few people contacted me in 2014. They found my site through search or social media and were interested in how I could help them with their business. These people usually fell into a few categories;
- New/Recently Started Businesses
- Home-based business or Self Employed Persons
- People like myself who worked full time but have a side business
What Were They Looking For
The majority of people were looking for help with their marketing, a few needed websites and/or help with their social media marketing efforts.
Unfortunately, not enough of these contacts led to new business. The problem I realized is two part;
- Many did not have the resources to invest in the services I offered
- And they wanted services that were not quite what I offered.
Changes I Will Make In 2015
Messaging
My main value statement says “Reach More Customers Online”. Many people took this to mean I will do marketing for them. Whereas I want to provide business with the tools that they can use for their marketing. Small but important distinction.
I will make my messaging specific so that prospective customers are clear about how I can help them.
Services
Custom website design is expensive and takes time to complete. While many persons had specific and elaborate ideas about what they wanted, unfortunately many were not prepared to pay that price.
In 2015, I am moving away from custom website design to offering an All In One Website Package which focuses on professional theme setup, online strategies to help businesses online and basic customization. It will allow businesses to get online quicker, be more effective online and is more affordable.
Mission
The main reason I started this site was to help local business embrace online technology and get online. My main focus to date has been website design and social media. But their are an amazing number of online tools that can be of assistance to local business that I want to share.
In 2015, I will present more of these tools on this blog as well as offer different services to local businesses.
I believe these changes will allow me to offer more value to readers of my blog and my email subscribers moving forward.
