You’ve probably heard that the internet is a powerful tool and that your business need to be online. While that is indeed true, there is another truth not often spoken of; that the internet can be a big waste of time and money.
But the problem isn’t the internet it self , that would be like blaming the basketball when Shaq missed a free throw, or you blaming the car because you were lost. No, the problem lies in how you use the tool!
Websites, Social Media and Online Marketing are just tools that you must use correctly in order to achieve your goals.
Failing to understand this fact will lead to many businesses wasting time and money online.
How Website Designers Mislead Clients
Design Is Not Just What It Looks Like and Feels Like. Design Is How It Works – Steve Jobs, Apple
The most common Bahamas website design mistake is focusing almost entirely on what the site looks like and not enough on how it works to achieve business goals.
Local website designers often tell you things like, you need to “get a presence online” or “claim your digital real-estate”, or you will “get found” in search engines like google or bing.
The impression they often give is that if you just get this website, online visitors will flock to it, become customers and give you their money. (Sorry it doesn’t work like that…)
They will then sell you a website with a visually pleasing design and maybe some cool features but at the end of the day the site doesn’t really add much to your business.
How Get Social Bahamas Different
When I started looking at the Bahamas online landscape, I couldn’t understand why more local businesses did not have websites or why many were not using social media.
Then I looked at the companies that were online and I noticed that many were not following website design or Social media best practices and I knew they were not generating a positive return for their owners. As a result of this I think many local owners have become hesitant to embrace new technology.
From the beginning I decided I was not going to sell website design, social media or online marketing to local businesses as some kind of quick fix. I wanted to make sure businesses knew the truth and could make informed decisions.
The truth is that websites, social media and online marketing are not quick fixes for your business problems, they take time to work. You need a consistent strategy to use these tools effectively. But when done correctly they can literally revolutionize your business.
It is my goal to educate local business executives and owners on how to get the most out of online marketing.
